History of Sauter AG
First Time Switch, 1910

1910 - Company established by Fritz Sauter in Grindelwald, Switzerland, for the manufacture of electric time switches. The construction and precision of the devices attracts the attention of experts. As orders increase , the company expands and relocates to Basel.

During the First World War, Fritz Sauter develops the first electric boiler. A thermal appliances department is added to the existing workshops.

1920 - Sauter becomes a limited company. The first overseas representation contract is signed with Zander & Ingeström, a Swedish company, in May 1925. In September 1923 Procédés Sauter of France is established with a partner company in Alsace. In 1925 the first subsidiary company, Sauter-Cumulus GmbH, is established in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

1948 – a factory for the manufacture of thermostats and control equipment for heating and air conditioning units is established just across the border from Basel at Saint-Louis in France. Sauter’s production sites in Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau, its many subsidiaries and representations soon bring the company international renown.
